XSARA Helmi welcomes Founding Director of LABRC Dr Roula-Maria Dib as External Advisor
Xsara Helmi is delighted to welcome Dr Roula-Maria Dib, PhD, FRSA, as an external advisor to her transdisciplinary arts-based research for her PhD in Music.
Dr Dib is an award-winning literary scholar, poet, editor, and arts-based researcher whose work bridges literature, creative practice, Jungian psychology, and transdisciplinary research. She is the Founding Director of the London Arts-Based Research Centre (LABRC) and Founding Editor of Indelible Literary and Arts Journal. Internationally recognised for advancing arts-based research methodologies, Dr Dib's work champions creative inquiry as a powerful means of generating knowledge across disciplines.
She is the author of the acclaimed monograph Jungian Metaphor in Modernist Literature (Routledge, 2020), which was shortlisted for the International Association for Jungian Studies (IAJS) Book Awards, and the poetry collection Simply Being (Chiron Publications, 2021), with poems from the collection nominated for the Pushcart Prize. Her scholarship continues to shape conversations around arts-based research, poetic inquiry, creativity, and interdisciplinary knowledge production.
As External Advisor, Dr Roula-Maria Dib will provide critical insight throughout Helmi's doctoral journey, supporting the development of the project's transdisciplinary framework, poetic inquiry methodology and Jungian Arts. Drawing on her expertise in arts-based research and literary interdisciplinary practice, Dr Dib brings valuable perspectives on how artistic processes can illuminate lived experience and create alternative forms of knowledge.
Helmi's PhD research adopts a transdisciplinary arts-based approach to explore autistic auditory experience through arts practice, poetic inquiry, and music phenomenological exploration. The project brings together sensory experience, creativity, and research to challenge conventional approaches to hearing and knowledge production. Dr Dib's appointment reflects the project's commitment to working with scholars who share its vision for creative, collaborative, and boundary-crossing approaches to research.

Dr Dib joins an interdisciplinary external advisory network that includes Em. Professor John Drever (University of Cambridge, Cambridge Digital Humanities), Assoc. Professor Jon Robson (University of Nottingham, Philosophy), and Dr Helen Kara Their expertise covers sound studies, philosophy, arts-based research, and neurodivergent-affirming scholarship reflects the interdisciplinary foundations of Helmi's research and supports its transdisciplinary approach to aural diversity.
