Xsara Helmi to Present Hospital Noises at the University of Oxford, Science and Sensibility:Method Meets Arts

LAURA PhD researcher Xsara Helmi will present Hospital Noises: Sonic Autobiography and the Embodied Experience of Autistic Auditory Perception an Editors’ Choice article published by Bristol University Press in the Journal of Creative Research Methods, at Science and Sensibility: Method Meets Art, a transdisciplinary conference taking place at the University of Oxford on 17–18 October 2026.

The article explores autistic auditory perception and the embodied experience of sound within hospital environments through field recordings, autoethnographic narrative and music phenomenological improvisation. The research uses creative practice to explore how sound is experienced through the body.

Science and Sensibility: Method Meets Art is a transdisciplinary conference bridging the arts and sciences. Organised by the London Arts-Based Research Centre (LABRC), it brings together researchers and practitioners from different disciplines to explore connections between scientific and artistic approaches to knowledge and practice. The programme includes music-based practices, medical humanities, psychology and the arts, poetry and medicine, neuroscience and creativity, and other forms of transdisciplinary research.
